Gel battery is a kind of completely sealed, activated units with electrolyte pro-filled when supplied. Superior to wet charged batteries (Yucell YS range), Gel batteries are filled with unique gel electrolyte which makes the battery easy and safe to use. Batteries with gel electrolyte are more vibration-resistant than other types of batteries, more environment-friendly by eliminating spills and corrosion, and have less evaporation which is a constant problem for traditional wet charged batteries.
With excellent performance, long shelf life and extended life span, Yucell Gel batteries have been steadily replacing wet charged and YTX batteries in the market.
Advantages of Gel Batteries:
- Gel batteries are filled with gel electrolyte which does not flow as free liquid. It makes the batteries safer than traditional wet charged ones.
- Gel is a kind of high homogeneity material and acid stratification will not happen in batteries with gel electrolyte. Hence sulphation to the negative plates and corrosion to the positive plates at the bottom by the concentration of acid due to gravity will not happen as well. The utilization of active material hereby increases and the battery life span is extended.
- Gel batteries have a better resistance to extreme temperature changes. The working limit is extended to -40℃ (40℉). The capacity loss is much less than wet charged batteries in extremely cold environment because of the high utilization rate of active material.
- Gel batteries perform well in a hot environment. The life span of a gel battery under 50℃ ( 122℉) is double compared with a conventional wet charged one.
- The increment in utilization of active material directly increases the battery capacity, especially at the end stage of discharge where the capacity is higher than conventional battery. It gives a longer plateau in working capacity.
- Gel electrolyte helps to reduce the rate of negative plates sulphation which decides the rate of battery self discharge. Low self discharge rate makes gel batteries double in shelf life compared with wet charged batteries.
- Gel electrolyte has a three-dimensional network structure. During the charging process, it guides the generated oxygen horizontally towards negative plates where the recombination process occurs with generated hydrogen there. It reduces the moisture loss and increases sealing performance and battery life.
